Hi everyone! We've been busy over the past few weeks relocating our Texas and Ohio offices. The Austin office is now closer to downtown and 6th Street (as Steve Piche likes to point out...) and our Customer Support Center, previously in Chardon, Ohio, has moved a few miles to Mentor. Note the new addresses and phone numbers on our website. Mobile phone numbers and Customer Support Tech Line remain the same.
We'll post some photos of the new locations once we get settled in. For specific employee contact information, please email us at info@neuco.net.

Increasing Demand
The winter of 2009-2010 was defined by snowstorms of historic proportions and record-breaking low temperatures, as millions of Americans faced blistering cold, damaging flooding and/or white-out blizzard conditions. In part due to the weather and in part to the general economic recovery, residential electricity demand increased by more than seven percent relative to the first quarter of last year. And while the last two years witnessed the first negative demand growth in decades, the EIA projects that United States total electricity consumption will grow by 1.9 percent in 2010.
To put it in perspective, these same projections of 1.9% average annual electricity growth was... [Read More] |

My friend and former colleague, Dr. Peter Fox-Penner recently published Smart Power, an in-depth look at the policy and business challenges electric utilities face due to the combined impacts of climate change, the smart grid, and energy efficiency policies. Much of Dr. Fox-Penner’s book represents his years of dedicated research as well as the perspective derived from a career devoted to executive consulting, academic research and government service. The book provides a concise overview of the rapidly-changing landscape of the utility industry and how current challenges will shape its future.
Smart Power explains the multiple dimensions of this emerging industry transformation, including... [Read More] |

| Driving your Mack Truck like a Maserati? |
Peter Spinney Market and Technology Assessment NeuCo, Inc.

While reading an article from the Denver Business Journal about the potential unintended consequences of increasing wind energy, I was reminded of one of my all-time favorite customer quotes: "Big coal burners are not designed to be driven like a maserati; they are mack trucks". That customer was talking about the challenges and impacts of ramping baseload coal-fired power plants to accommodate renewable energy sources such as intermittent wind energy.
While this is a very difficult and thorny problem for many of our customers, I was pleasantly surprised to see it getting coverage in the main-stream media. While I believe renewable energy technology will play a vital and exciting role in meeting our energy needs and environmental challenges, too often people... [Read More] |
